Andrew Jackson's Mansion

I saw a sign on the road advertising the Hermitage. I told Patsy that I would like to see it. We went into town & got directions, which was straight ahead on the right. When we got there, there was a sign stating that it was closed. The gate was closed on our side. There was a car behind us & they went to the other side of the driveway & drove on. I followed that car. When I got up to the Visitor's Center, I saw quite a few cars. Patsy said there must be a private party. I said the I was going to go in & ask if we could join them. Patsy said that they would kick me out. I saw 2 ladies sitting on a bench outside the Center. I told them that I was from Portland, ME & saw the sign & would like to see the mansion. They told me that it is only closed 3 times a year: Thanksgiving, Christmas & the 3rd week in Jan for staff training. I asked if I could see the mansion. Another lady joined us. The 1st 2 ladies explained my predicament. This new lady was the manager of the site. She said that she could not open the mansion as the were doing saome work on it. She did take me up to see the outside of the mansion, Jackson's prior home & the slave quarters. It was pouring rain out. I really appreciated her taking the time to show mw around. I know that she was late for her training, but she genuinely wanted to make sure that I got the pictures I wanted to.
