Bemidji, MN

We had a great breakfast at Maureen and Ross Allen's in Dryden. Linda and Don accompanied us. It was a very nice send off as we found out we had a long road ahead of us. There certainly were a lot of trees on our journey through the forests and believe me not too much civilization. The foliage had begun so I got a couple of pictures right on the road. I just stopped on the highway, got out of the car and took the pictures - not many cars traveling that road. I am glad that we travel in the daytime only. We had a wonderful time in Canada visiting all of our friends and are very grateful to Wendy and Lumpy and Don and Linda for opening up their houses to us. Thanks everyone for a great time and many good memories. Now we begin our journey in the states.

looking back

looking ahead

in Bemidji, going down Paul Bunyan Drive, I saw this sign

going over the bridge I noticed this one. The city declares that the Mississppi River begins here in Bemidji although Patsy could not find it on the map. Any thoughts about this?

located in a park just before the bridge is Paul Bunyan and Babe his Blue Ox. Apparently Paul was here in 1937 and he has a fez on. The Shriners are located across the street.

  1. Keith was at one time the Ontario Representative and Commissioner on the board of the Mississippi River Parkway Commission. He says the head of the Mississippi is at Lake Itaska which then flows North to Bemidji and then swings around and heads South until it reaches New Orleans. We spent many years going to conventions at different ports along the river and in each state that borders it. Great times!! Glenice
